17/09/2015 - Proposals for Slow Zones at 30 Housing Estates in Donegal

Slow Sign 269 x 269

Donegal County Council is inviting the public to have their say on proposals to introduce Slow Zones at 30 housing estates across Donegal.

These proposals have been prepared following on from an initial public consultation process earlier this year and are being undertaken as part of a pilot scheme which is in keeping with the guidelines published by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport on setting and managing speed limits in Ireland.

These ‘Slow Zones’ are being developed and implemented with a view to reducing the speed limit to 30 km/h and to add safety measures within the  selected area in order to change driver behaviour. The ultimate goal of a ‘Slow Zone’ is to lower the incidence and severity of crashes and to enhance quality of life.

An important part of this process is engaging with the community and hearing the views of residents and others affected by these proposals and this is why this public consultation process is being undertaken.

Further detail on these proposals is available here including draft Bye Law Amendments, an explanatory document and maps illustrating the proposed amendements.

Submissions can be made by email to [email protected] or by writing to Donegal County Council at Road Traffic Special Speed Limits, The County Secretariat Office, Donegal County Council, Lifford, Co. Donegal.

Submissions must be received by the 9th October 2015.
